One sport that aired during the 2024 Olympics didn’t take place in Paris. To determine the world’s best, the surf competition unfolded in the treacherous waters of Teahupo’o, known as “The Place of Skulls.” After a grueling season, where big wave riders vied for World Cup titles and suffered life-threatening injuries from hitting the reef, the media was abuzz. In this charged atmosphere, Oakley unveiled its first surf helmet, introducing a groundbreaking design alongside a campaign that promised to help surfers get out of their heads.
